Frank Hladky, Oregon Registered Geologist and Geology Instructor: Getting the Science Right: Teaching and Doing Geology in Southern Oregon

Teaching geology to youth requires clarifying the philosophy of rational thought. Geology, like other sciences, relies on evidence to substantiate interpretations. Utilizing vignettes from geological field studies in southern Oregon, Mr. Hladky shows how multiple lines of evidence leads to an understanding of the natural world with greater clarity.

“Once you’ve connected the principles of geology with what you see in the field, you will, in awesome wonder, never look at the world the same again."

Frank Hladky is an Oregon Registered Geologist with more than a dozen years of geological teaching experience with Southwestern Community College, Coquille School District, and Idaho State University.

He has more than two decades of field experience as a geologist for such organizations as the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries, Newmont Mining Company, and the U.S. Geological Survey. He’s an active member of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers.
